The Spy Plane That Caused a Bug Spray Shortage

According to accounts from the aviation industry, Shell Oil developed JP-7 using petroleum feedstocks that were also used in the production of Flit insecticide, one of the most popular bug sprays of the era. As demand for the specialized fuel increased, resources were redirected toward military production, leading to shortages of Flit on store shelves across the country.
